Sándor Márai 125: Work, translation and mediation

The project highlights the literary and cultural legacy of Sándor Márai, a Central European writer of international importance. A transnational, interdisciplinary conference in Košice, Márai’s birthplace, will take place from 24–26 September 2025 and will bring together scholars from the Visegrad countries, Germany and Croatia. The program will introduce new perspectives on his work, encourage cross-border exchange, and address shared cultural heritage.

A highlight of the program will be the public panel discussion on 25 September with Terézia Mora, László Márton, and Wilhelm Droste, focusing on translation, intercultural dialogue, and the international reception of Márai.

The event is organized by Comenius University in Bratislava in cooperation with the University of Pannonia in Veszprém, the University of Pardubice, and Humboldt University of Berlin. Funded by the International Visegrad Fund, the initiative strengthens intercultural dialogue and contributes to European integration through literature.
