Arriving in Bratislava

By plane to Bratislava airport (Letisko)

If you fly directly to the Bratislava airport, you can take bus no. 61 to the Railway Central Station ("Hlavná stanica") and get off at the "Trnavske mýto" bus stop to change for other buses or trams, or to get off at any of the subsequent stops of bus no. 61 (depending on the location of your hotel) to change bus/tram.

In particular, if you choose Hotel Družba (see link below) for accommodation, you can take bus no. 61 from the airport, get off at the "Trnavske mýto" bus stop and change for tram no. 9 to get you to the "Botanická záhrada" tram stop (next to Hotel Družba).

See also the Bratislava journey planner. However, be aware that you have to fill in the names of the bus/tram/trolley stops, not the names of the streets. For planning your journey, you can also use Google Maps which can find suitable public transport based on street names and times.

For useful information about ticket prices, see here.

If you prefer to take a taxi to get you from the Bratislava airport to Bratislava city center, we recommend calling a taxi service different from the one available at the airport (e.g. VB Taxi – 18 158; or 5€ taxi – +421 918 555 555). Please expect approximately €10-20 for a taxi drive.

By plane to Vienna airport

If you choose to fly to the Vienna airport, it’s really easy to get to Bratislava from there. Vienna airport is 65 km from Bratislava and the buses to Bratislava depart in 30/60 min. intervals (from approximately 6 am to 10:30 pm) from bus terminal no. 4. After your arrival to Bratislava, you should get off at the Bratislava central bus station ("Autobusová stanica Nivy") which is near the city center (and approximately 0.8 km from the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University).

By bus

If you travel by bus, you will get off directly at the Bratislava central bus station ("Autobusová stanica Nivy") which is located in the city center.

For planning the journey to your hotel, please see the Bratislava journey planner. However, be aware that you have to fill in the names of bus/tram/trolley stops, not the names of the streets. For planning your journey, you can also use Google Maps which can find suitable public transport based on street names and times.

For useful information about ticket prices, see here.

By train

If you opt for train, you’ll likely arrive at the Bratislava Main Railway Station ("Hlavná stanica"). If you stay at Hotel Družba, you can take bus no. 32 going directly to the "Botanická záhrada" bus stop near the hotel. If you want to get to the city center, take tram no. 1 which stops also at "Šafárikovo námestie" next to the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University.

Some trains from Vienna arrive at the Petržalka Railway Station. If you stay at Hotel Družba, you can take buses no. 94 or 80 to get to the "Zochova" bus stop. The tram stop "Kapucínska" is nearby. Trams 5 and 9 will take you directly to the "Botanická záhrada" stop which is near the hotel. To get from the Petržalka Railway Station to the University, take bus no. 99 to the "Farského" stop, then take any of the trams leaving from the nearby tram stop. All of them stop at "Šafárikovo námestie" which is next to the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University.

For a concrete city journey, check Google Maps or the Bratislava journey planner.

Public transportation

Beside the Bratislava journey planner and Google Maps, there’s also a Slovak public transport mobile application called “Ubian” available on Google Play and iTunes – unfortunately, only in Slovak. Anyway, you can simply fill in the name of the end destination (the name of street) into the field called “Zadaj cieľ” and your starting point into the field called “Štart” and the complete journey (including the number of bus/tram/trolley connection) will be displayed.

Also, if you travel from your hotel/hostel destination to the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University, please search either for the tram stop “Šafárikovo námestie” or the bus stop “Malá scéna”.

Accommodation

There are plenty of nice hotels/hostels in Bratislava available via booking.com. If you prefer a cheaper but comfortable hotel, we recommend Hotel Družba (single room €27.30/night; twin room €47/night). The hotel is located near the river Danube and you can take trams no. 4 or 6 to reach the faculty (in approximately 8 minutes).

Also check hotels in the city center (via booking.com): Elisabeth Old Town (€55/night); Centrum Salvator (€51/night); Old City Center (€40/night) or Charming&Cozy-Ambiente Appartments (€59/nights), to name just few.

Restaurants

There are several nice restaurants in the Bratislava city center to choose for lunch or dinner. You can have a look at those near the faculty, for instance:

The price of a regular daily menu starts approximately at €4.50.
