Martin Vašš specializes in Slovak history of the 20th century (political, cultural and social history, select problems of historiography). Among his most important outputs are monographs Zmenení Parížom : slovenskí umelci a Paríž v 20. storočí (Changed by Paris : Slovak Artists and Paris in the 20th Century, 2020), Bratislavská umelecká bohéma v rokoch 1920 – 1945 (Artistic Boheme in Bratislava in 1920 – 1945, 2016), Slovenská otázka v 1. ČSR (1918 – 1938) (Slovak Question in the First Czechoslovak Republic, 2011), Prievidza v rokoch 1918 – 1948 (2013). He received the Egon Erwin Kisch Award for the year 2018 (for his books Zlatá bohéma and Medzi snom skutočnosťou), the Award of Národné osvetové centrum for the best town monograph in 2014 (for his monograph on Prievidza). He has worked on several VEGA grants “Samuel Zoch. Denníky – korešpondencia – prejavy – články – kázne” (Samuel Zoch. Diaries – Correspondence – Speeches – Articles – Sermons, 2012 – 2014), as a co-holder – KEGA „E-learning ako inovatívna forma univerzitného a celoživotného vzdelávania v odbore slovenské dejiny" (E-learning as an innovative form of university and continuous education in the specialization on Slovak History), project no. 024UK-4/2019, 2019 – 2021, “Dr. Pavel Blaho a formovanie slovenskej politiky” (Dr. Pavel Blaho and the formation of Slovak politics, 2016 – 2018), “Dr. Anton Štefánek – politik, žurnalista a vedecký pracovník” (Dr. Anton Štefánek – Politician, Journalist, Scientist, 2013 – 2015), “Tvorcovia slovenských dejín” (Makers of Slovak History, 2010 – 2012). His most important pupils are Peter Vanek, Adam Šumichrast.
