Dr. Mihai Dragnea

Mihai Dragnea is the president of the Balkan History Association and the editor of Hiperboreea, the association’s journal, published by Pennsylvania State University Press.

Between 2020 and 2026 he was an associate researcher at the University of South-Eastern Norway. His research concerns the history of the Slavs beyond the Elbe between the 10th and 12th centuries, focusing on conversion, Christian and pagan identity, religious beliefs and ritual practices, hagiography, crusading, mobility and settlement, and monastic orders. He is also interested in Slavic identity and state formation, Wallachian and Vlach identity, and ethnicity and conflict in the Balkans.
