Introduction to Museology

Aim of the course:
The aim is to clarify the origin, development and position of museology in our country and in the world, to gain an overview of its institutional base and representatives; learn to work with museum literature.
Brief outline:
Definition of the term museology, Basic terminology of museology and cultural heritage, Evolution of the museum phenomenon and directions of museological thinking, Structure of museology as a scientific discipline, important representatives, Subject and system of study of museology, Institutional base of museology in our country, international organizations, Current trends and problems, Introduction to the management of cultural institutions
Course requirements:
- During the semester: a paper due the last week of class and minor assignments during the semester. For the seminar paper, the students will select a museological publication and present it. Presentation in the last class.
- During the examination period: final test. To pass the final written exam, the student needs to obtain at least a 60% pass rate.
