or From Parchment to PowerPoint: The Adventure of a Master's Practice

Objective:

The subject is intended for the master's degree in archival and museology. Students complete it over 20 working days of six hours each in a selected memory institution (archive, museum, gallery, monument office), which they choose according to the focus of their master's thesis. The aim of the internship is for students to engage in tasks and activities as instructed by the memory institution's staff. At the same time, they focus on heuristic research on the chosen topic of their master's thesis, using archival sources, museum documentation or other resources of the memory institution. The internship is intended to help the student write the final thesis, obtain sources and acquire the work and professional skills necessary for writing it. After the internship, each student will receive an assessment from the relevant memory institution on their attendance at the internship and the activities performed.

Brief syllabus:

  • Selection of a memory institution according to the focus of the master's thesis.
  • Fulfilment of tasks and activities according to the instructions of the memory institution's staff.
  • Heuristic research of relevant sources on the topic of the master's thesis.

Graduation requirements:

  • Regular attendance at the internship, two missed days are accepted.
  • Active fulfilment of assigned tasks (50%).
  • Report on the course of the internship, activities performed and evaluation from a professional point of view (50%).

  • Selected analytical and synthetic archival tools of a specific archival workplace.
  • Selected studies in the journals Slovenská archivistika, Múzeum, Muzeológia a kultúrne dedičstvo and others.
  • Other professional scientific literature related to the topic of the student's final thesis.
