Aim of the course:
Students will learn the application of the theoretical principles of museology in the practice of museums, their definition by legislative norms. At the same time, they will learn the basics of registration of collection objects and cultural monuments, including the use of information systems. They will also acquire basic knowledge in the field of museum exhibition and communication with the public.
Brief outline:
- Museography in the system of museology, its definition and components
- Legislative norms regulating museum practice (law, decree, directives)
- Registration, documentation and cataloguing in the museum
- Collection management - depository regime, loans, export
- Conservation, preparation and restoration - introduction to the issues
- Museum exhibitions and work with the public (visitor research) - introduction to the issues
- Museum marketing, presentation and promotion of museums
Course requirements:
- During the semester: presentation and seminar paper thematically focused on the field of applied museology from the environment of the selected museum. The seminar paper is due the last week of classes. Plus minor assignments for class.
- During the exam period: a final text in which the student needs to obtain at least a 60% pass rate.
