Objective:
Students will gain an orientation in the development of museology as a science, the subject of its research, personalities of world and Slovak museology.
Brief outline:
- The subject of study of historical museology.
- Genesis of the museum relationship.
- Periodization of the development of the museum phenomenon.
- History of collecting and institutionalization of the museum phenomenon.
- The Middle Ages, Renaissance cabinets, kunstkammer and naturkammer.
- The emergence of modern museums and their focus at home and in Europe.
- The state of museology at the beginning of the 20th century, stages of development in the first half of the 20th century. 20th century.
- Trends of museum development in the 2nd half of the 20th century. 20th century.
- Development of museological theory in the 20th century.
- European and non-European schools of museology and their representatives.
- Czechoslovak Museological School.
- Museology in Slovakia and Czechoslovakia in the interwar period.
- Changes in Slovak museology after 1948, pluses and minuses.
- Museum organisation and international cooperation.
- International Council of Museums ICOM.
Graduation Requirements:
- The instructor will accept a maximum of 2 absences.
- Final sixty-minute quiz.
