or – how to get short-term additional supervisors and move one step closer to the final

Objective:

This is a practically oriented course, the essence of which is the collective consultation of the introductory chapters of the dissertation (in the West, a privatissimum-type teaching format). Doctoral supervisors specializing in auxiliary historical sciences from the Department of Archives and Museology offer doctoral students with historically oriented topics the opportunity to collaborate/co-guide in the formulation of the opening chapters of their doctoral dissertation. We offer the possibility to consult: formal analysis of your sources from the paleographic or codicological point of view (prof. Šedivý), from the point of view of genealogy, sphragistics, heraldry, numismatics, etc. (doc. Federmayer) and diplomacy and regional history (dr. Csiba) + informal also consultations on the history of administration, memory institutions (dr. M. Orosová) always in connection with the topics of your dissertation.

Brief outline:

  • Introductory colloquium
  • Examples of good practice in a selected area of PVH related to the topics
  • Innovative methods in auxiliary historical sciences analyses
  • Work in progress or insight into the kitchen of authors and students
  • Preparation of seminar papers (basically introductory chapters of dissertations) on the following topics: 1) Previous research on the topic under study (= critical evaluation of older research + potential); 2) Written sources on the topic of the thesis; 3) Professional terminology on the topic of the thesis (oriented partly on the history of administration from the selected period); 4) Overview of the history of the region/locality under study in relation to the topic of the thesis
  • Seminar paper submission and written feedback
  • Final colloquium

Graduation Requirements:

Completion of ongoing activities = 100% of the grade (consists of the student's activity, his/her completion of mutually agreed upon stages in formulating the thesis).
