Course objective:

A one-semester course, the third in a four-semester lecture cycle focused on the history of administration in the Kingdom of Hungary, specifically within the territory of Slovakia. Students will gain a basic overview of the development of administrative history in our territory during the period 1526–1848, with a focus especially on regional royal offices, feudal, municipal, local, and ecclesiastical administration.

Brief outline:

  • Introduction to the issue of administration history in the early modern period
  • Central royal offices in the kingdom’s capital
  • Regional royal offices after 1526
  • Feudal administration (Middle Ages, Modern period)
  • Municipal administration (royal and mining towns)
  • Municipal administration (noble-owned towns)
  • Local (village) administration
  • Ecclesiastical administration

Requirements for completion:

  • Regular attendance (maximum 3 absences)
  • Successful completion of a midterm written test (in the 8th week of the semester, 30% of the grade) and a final test (during the exam period, 70% of the grade)
