Objective:

The subject is intended for the master's degree of archival science and assumes basic knowledge of archival terminology and the history of archival science. It provides theoretical and practical knowledge about the management, preservation and access to archival materials. The aim is to familiarize students with the principles of archival work, the development and application of archival principles in the context of world archival theories. Students will acquire knowledge about archival science as an independent scientific discipline and its components. They will become familiar with the most important works of Slovak and foreign archival theorists and will be able to summarize them.

  • The most important archival theories in the world
  • Provenance and pertinence in Archives in the past and today
  • The emergence and development of the provenance principle
  • The contribution of Dutch archivists to archival theory and practice
  • Theory of the archival fund
  • International archival standards
  • Current problems of archival science in the context of digital archival science

Requirementfor completion of the course:

  • Regular attendance at lectures, three missed classes without an excuse are accepted.
  • Processing an abstract of one Slovak and one foreign scientific study on archival theory (40%).
  • Passing a final online knowledge test (60%).
