Dr. Boriana Antonova-Goleva is assistant professor at the University of Economics – Varna, Bulgaria. She obtained her BA (2009) and her MA (2011) at the Faculty of History of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. She defended her PhD thesis on the introduction and development of railways and telegraphs in the Ottoman Empire between 1856 and 1878, with a particular focus on the Bulgarian lands at the same faculty (2016). Boriana Antonova-Goleva held research fellowships at various institutions, including the American Research Institute in Istanbul, Turkey (2013), the American Research center in Sofia (2014), Uludağ University, Bursa (2016-2017), and Aristotle University, Thessaloniki (Greece). She is fellow of the National Scholarship Program, SAIA at the Department of Slovak history of Comenius University, Bratislava (September, 2018 – February, 2017). Her project is “Railway Development in the Age of Globalization: The Cases of the Bulgarian and the Slovak Lands during the 19th century in a comparative perspective”. Dr. Antonova-Goleva’s research interests include history of technology and modernization of the Ottoman Empire and the Balkans during the 19th century.
