Ivan Lábaj specialises on Neo-Latin literature, specifically on Johannes Sambucus. The title of his dissertation thesis, which he defended in 2016, was "Ján Sambucus: De imitatione Ciceroniana. Analýza 2. dialógu" (Johannes Sambucus: De imitatione Ciceroniana. Analysis of the 2nd dialogue).

His teaching activities cover Latin morphology and syntax, Roman literature, reading and interpreting Neo-Latin texts and metrics. 


Ivan Lábaj is a member of the Slovak Union of Classical Philologists (SUCP/SJKF), acting as its treasurer since 2013. He is also a member of the International Association for Neo-Latin Studies (IANLS), since 2019 a member of the Committee for Teaching Neo-Latin.
