Aim of the course:
Students will learn about the history, methodology and methods of handling garments in museum collections. They will acquire basic knowledge of the criteria for selection, storage, care and display of garments in museums.
Brief outline:
- ICOM - Committee for Collections of Historical Clothing
- Collection of clothing (history, selection criteria)
- Cataloguing of clothing (identification, description)
- Storage and care of clothing in depositories
- Display (history, methods, conditions)
- A brief history of clothing
Course requirements:
- During the semester: active participation in classes, preparation of intermediate assignments related to the topic of the course, max 2 absences
- Final presentation of a larger seminar paper on a selected topic
