Mobility

Participating in student mobility (staying at a foreign university) has many advantages. If you are planning to go to a foreign university to study or do an internship, you will find useful information in this section.

The most popular form of mobility is through the Erasmus+ program (which you can access through the ENLIGHT alliance in addition to the regular form – see below for more info).

Erasmus+ enables student mobility for the purpose of study as well as internships (see information below).

In addition to the Erasmus+ program, it is also possible to travel to foreign universities through so-called bilateral agreements concluded with selected institutions. (In the case of these mobility programs, no grant is provided to cover part of the costs, as is the case with Erasmus+).

Other mobility programs also offer additional mobility opportunities, which can be found on the university and faculty websites.

Information about the mobility programs of Comenius University in Bratislava can be found at: https://uniba.sk/en/international-relations/university-cooperation-mobility/bilateral-cooperation/students-mobility/

Information about the mobility programs of the Faculty of Philosophy can be found at: https://fphil.uniba.sk/en/international-cooperation/

Erasmus+ study mobility

Erasmus+ mobility sends students on mobility programs based on agreements concluded at the department/faculty level. These are contracts that are renewed at certain intervals, with some expiring and new ones being concluded. Therefore, the list of partner institutions may change from year to year.

The list of institutions with which the Department of Psychology has concluded a contract for the 2024/25 academic year can be found below. Students can also see the list of institutions where they can spend their mobility period in the online Erasmus+ application form.

The level of study at which mobility is possible is specified separately for each university. The level at which Erasmus+ mobility is possible may vary between universities. The relevant level of study at which Erasmus+ mobility is possible is indicated for each university by the abbreviations Bc. (mobility is possible at the bachelor's level), Mgr. (mobility is possible at the master's level), PhD. (mobility is possible at the doctoral level).

Please note that some universities require knowledge of the language of the country in which they are located. This information is provided for each university.

Selection of students (Erasmus+ mobility)

After applying for Erasmus+ mobility, students are included in a selection process conducted by the Department of Psychology. The selection process assesses the applicant's CV, motivation letter, grade point average, awards/extracurricular and voluntary activities, ESN membership, and language skills.

Documents assessed in the Erasmus+ mobility selection process:

  • CV (the CV should be structured and contain the following information: name, surname, date and place of birth, studies)
  • motivation letter (should include the student's study plan, motivation for the chosen destination defined in terms of the planned study period, and benefits for the academic and professional field)
  • grade point average
  • extracurricular activities (awards, internships, activities in university clubs, etc.), membership in ESN (Erasmus Student Network), language skills (certificate)

Erasmus+ study mobility through the ENLIGHT university alliance:

ENLIGHT is a European network of universities established to help build the foundations of an integrated European higher education system. Students of Comenius University in Bratislava can also take advantage of a joint inter-institutional agreement concluded within the ENLIGHT university alliance as part of Erasmus+ mobility.

Before selecting the ENLIGHT agreement in their application, students must check the partner university's website and the ENLIGHT course catalog to verify that the field of study they are interested in is taught at the partner university and is compatible with the study program at Comenius University.

It is also necessary to pay attention to the language of instruction, as many courses may only be offered in the language of the institution and not in English.

Selection of students for Erasmus+ mobility (through the ENLIGHT university alliance)

The selection of students is carried out by the Rector's Office of Comenius University in Bratislava. It is based on the following criteria:

  • grade point average
  • level of language of study
  • preference for first Erasmus+ mobility
  • preference for disadvantaged students (health, social...)

Places for students in the ENLIGHT inter-institutional agreement are valid for the entire university, not for individual faculties. The number of Comenius University students who can participate in semester mobility at ENLIGHT partner universities during the academic year can be found on this page: https://uniba.sk/en/international-relations/eninternational-relationserasmus/students-study/

Other important information (applies to Erasmus+ studies and Erasmus+ through the ENLIGHT university alliance)

Duration of mobility:

The basic condition for completing Erasmus+ studies is that the student must be enrolled at FiF UK as a full-time student (studies must not be interrupted during E+ mobility).

Each student can participate in mobility through the Erasmus+ program for a maximum of 12 months at each level of study (Erasmus+ study and Erasmus+ internship combined) (12 months of a combination of student internship and student study through the Erasmus+ program at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels of study).

E+ mobility must begin and end in one academic year.

Information on extension options can be found here:  https://fphil.uniba.sk/en/international-cooperation/erasmus/outgonig-students/

Financial support:

Students receive financial support during their mobility, as Erasmus+ is a grant program. You can find more detailed information about the amount of the grant here: https://uniba.sk/en/international-relations/eninternational-relationserasmus/students-study/before-mobility/

Mobility application:

The application is submitted directly in the Mobility Online system. The link to the application form is available at https://uniba.sk/en/applications-for-mobilities/, where you will also find instructions on how to fill it in. You must fill in the application form listed first – STUDY SMS. In the application form, you can choose up to 3 options = 3 partner universities (based on departmental and faculty agreements or university-wide ENLIGHT agreements with partner universities). If the student is successful in the selection process, they will be sent to one university from among a maximum of 3 preferences.

Erasmus+ studies must be planned at least one year in advance. Applications for Erasmus+ studies must always be submitted in advance, in the academic year preceding the academic year in which the student wishes to travel.

For the exact date when the application must be submitted, please contact the International Relations Department; it is usually between December 15 and February 15. Further information about the application can be found here: https://uniba.sk/en/international-relations/eninternational-relationserasmus/students-study/before-mobility/

Planning your studies during mobility:

Information regarding the number and nature of registered subjects can be found on the faculty website.

https://fphil.uniba.sk/en/international-cooperation/erasmus/outgonig-students/

Before departure, it is necessary to fill in a document called the Learning Agreement - more information can be found on the faculty website.

Before that, you need to fill out the so-called Recognition Table, which must be signed by the student and the department coordinator.

The Recognition Table must be filled out because some foreign courses are recognized as equivalents to courses taught at the home university. The lecturer of the subject at the home university will determine whether the subject you plan to take at a foreign university is equivalent to a home subject and will confirm this with their signature on the Recognition Table.

Further information and instructions on how to fill in the Recognition Table can be found here: https://fphil.uniba.sk/fileadmin/fif/medzinarodne_vztahy/erasmus/Zakladne_info_o_uznavani.pdf

Erasmus+ study mobility internship

An internship is a period of time that a student spends in a company or other organization in a country eligible for the Erasmus+ program. The aim of the internship is to help individuals adapt to the requirements of the labor market, acquire professional/practical skills, and better understand the economic and social conditions of the host country, in conjunction with gaining work experience and language skills.

Long-term or short-term internships, or both, are available.

The basic condition for completing Erasmus+ studies or internships is that the student is enrolled at FiF UK as a full-time student (studies must not be interrupted during E+ mobility).

How to apply for an internship:

  • Identify and contact a potential foreign host organization where the student can complete an internship. The student chooses the institution for the internship at their own discretion, but in their own interest, they must verify its credibility.
  • In general, the duration of a long-term internship is a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months at each level of education (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD), and 24 months for combined studies.
  • A short-term internship can last a maximum of 30 days, including travel.

Eligible host organizations:

  • companies
  • training centers
  • research centers
  • universities
  • national representations (embassies, etc.)

Ineligible host organizations:

  • European institutions that accept students for paid internships
  • Organizations that manage European programs, e.g., national agencies

Financial support:

The grant that a student receives for an Erasmus+ internship abroad represents net income for the student and is not subject to Slovak tax laws. It is only a support grant, so it cannot be expected to cover all costs associated with the student's stay abroad. Therefore, it is necessary for the student to count on their own financial contribution. It is recommended that students insist on financial compensation/bonuses from the host institution (accommodation, meals, etc.) when negotiating the terms of the internship.

The maximum grant amount is set by the EC through the NA. countries are divided into three groups, and individual rates apply to all universities in Slovakia in order to maintain equal conditions for students within the Erasmus+ program.

More information on the amount of financial coverage can be found on the website of the UK International Relations Department.

Application for Erasmus+ internship:

Applications for Erasmus+ internships are submitted throughout the academic year via the Mobility Online application system.

You can apply for an internship during the academic year at any time (no later than June 30) by filling out an electronic application form (UK application system – same details as AiS). The application must be submitted at least 2 months before the start of the internship.

After submitting their application in the Mobility Online system, students are included in the selection process.

The criteria for the selection process for mobility internships are as follows:

  • motivation letter (entered directly into the Mobility Online system at the time of application)
  • grade point average (entered directly into the Mobility Online system at the time of application)

After a successful selection process, the student will receive information from the Mobility Online system about uploading the necessary documents.

The student shall upload the mandatory attachments to the Erasmus+ internship application directly to Mobility Online together with the application.

Attachments to the application that are assessed during the selection process (student selection criteria):

  • completed application for the Erasmus+ student internship
  • curriculum vitae
  • motivation letter
  • letter of acceptance from the organization
  • confirmation from the department that the internship organization (job description) is related to your studies (submitted electronically to the International Relations Office of the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University - rmvfphil.uniba.sk)
  • language certificate (if the student will communicate in a language other than Slovak during the internship and is not studying interpreting/translation)

Bilateral agreements

Students of the Faculty of Philosophy at Comenius University in Bratislava can take advantage of other mobility opportunities in addition to the most popular Erasmus+ mobility program, as well as the opportunity to study abroad through bilateral agreements.

The advantage of this option is that it mostly involves countries outside the EU. The disadvantage, however, is that foreign universities waive tuition fees for FiF UK students participating in such mobility programs, but students must cover all other costs associated with mobility themselves.

More information on mobility based on bilateral agreements can be obtained from the International Relations Office of FiF UK.
