Past BELONG events
As part of the BELONG project we organised a number of events.
The first initiative of BELONG has been the support group for students from Russia affected by the war in Ukraine that has been led since March 2022 by Hana Smitková and Radoslav Blaho from the Department of Psychology. Similar support has been offered to Ukrainian students, too.
In the framework of BELONG we moreover offer floor for discussion meetings on topics related to belonging to faculty and university.
The first discussion meeting took place on 31 March 2022. The topic was discrimination in academia. The meeting was attended by approx. 15 students and teachers. We discussed a variety of issues, including, for example, supporting female academics in career progress, using gender-sensitive language, also when speaking to/about the people with non-binary gender identity, changes elicited by adopting the Plan of Gender Equality by Comenius University in Bratislava, addressing the cases of sexual harassment, assigning required literature in a way, which respects that some students find certain topic sensitive, wearing face masks and respirators at school, which some students and academics refuse, etc.
Forthconing multiplication events of the BELONG project include:
- Belong day at Comenius University in Bratislava
- A conference on inclusive learning & teaching
- Panel at the ICED conference
- A conference on academic writing professional communication
- Launch of the Open access portal
