Project outcomes
As part of the project IMPACT we designed curricula of two courses 1) Effective teaching for internationalisation and 2) Academic writing for publication. Both courses were offered for the first time in 2020/2021 academic year for faculty members from Comenius University in Bratislava and Masaryk University.
In Summer 2020 the course Effective teaching for internationalisation underwent the process of international accreditation with the Staff and Educational Development Association (United Kingdom). The course has now been fully accredited both by SEDA and Comenius University. Each PhD. student who submits all the assignments in expected quality receives 6 ECTS for every semester of the course.
The principles that guided us while designing this course are described in an article Supporting academics who teach international students published in the ETH Learning and Teaching Journal 2(2), 2020, s. 217-220.
In Winter term 2020/21 the course was enrolled by 33 teachers from Comenius University (Faculties of arts, law, medicine, social and economic sciences) and Masaryk University. In Summer term 2020/21 29 teachers continued the course by designing course syllabi and class plans of their internationalised classes at undergraduate or graduate level together with the plans for evaluating the course outcomes. Participant teachers started teaching these courses in 2021/22 academic year. In June 2022, 23 participants graduated from the course and received SEDA certificate.
As another result of the IMPACT project, we designed an open-access portal with examples of good practice in internationalising courses and classes in humanities and social science disciplines. The portal can be accessed from here: Internationalising teaching in higher education. Supporting peer learning.
Finally, we evaluated and presented the outcomes of the course Effective teaching for internationalisation in a study and in an open-access book.
