Nottingham Trent University
Nottingham Trent University is a public research university that was established in 1992, but traces its roots back to 1843 when the Nottingham Government School of Design was funded. Since these humble beginnings, NTU has grown into one of the largest universities in the UK, with more than 38,000 students (2021) enrolled into its various programs at 5 different campuses (City, Brackenhurst, Clifton, Confetti and Mansfield). In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, 86% of NTU’s research impact has been classed as either world-leading or internationally excellent.
Equally importantly, NTU is committed to improving the student experience, which was recognized with a gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) that emphasized innovative learning and teaching; outstanding student engagement; the range of high quality work placements; and the engagement with employers who contribute to the development of courses. Based on student feedback, NTU won at the 2022 Whatuni Student Choice Awards for ‘best UK university for student life’ and for its support for international students.
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity for staff and students are especially important for NTU and features high on the university’s agenda. It is a proud member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions program to support and promote LGBT+ inclusion and is a Disability confident employer. In recognition of its ongoing efforts towards the advancement of gender equality, it now holds an Athena Swan institutional bronze award, and is working to make Success for All its students possible.
