Eurolect in the Legal Texts of the European Union: A Comparative Corpus-Based Analysis of Linguistic Levels with a Focus on Slovak

The doctoral thesis Eurolect in the Legal Texts of the European Union: A Comparative Corpus-Based Analysis of Linguistic Levels with a Focus on Slovak aims to provide a systematic analysis of Slovak Eurolect as a distinct variety of legal language shaped by multilingual EU institutional communication. The study focuses on identifying linguistic features of Slovak-language EU legal acts in comparison with original Slovak legislation.
The empirical basis consists of three comparable corpora: Slovak versions of EU directives, Slovak implementing measures, and a reference corpus of original Slovak legislation. Using corpus-linguistic and statistical methods, the analysis addresses lexical, morphological, morphosyntactic, syntactic, and textual levels. Particular attention is paid to translation-induced features, diachronic developments, and processes of terminological stabilisation.
The thesis contributes to comparative legal linguistics and Eurolect research by extending systematic corpus-based analysis to Slovak as a lesser-used EU language, while also offering empirically grounded insights relevant to legal translation practice and terminology management.

2. Dubbing translation for streaming platforms The aim of this dissertation is to examine the specifics of dubbing translation in the context of streaming platforms available in Slovakia. The task will be to outline how dubbing translation for streaming platforms differs from dubbing translation for television and cinema distribution, what the process of creating this dubbing looks like, and what competencies a dubbing translator must have in this context. The practical part will include an analysis of selected texts, interviews with professionals, and quantitative analysis in the form of questionnaires. The result should be not only an assessment of the current situation, but also a set of recommendations for improving the quality of dubbing and enriching the teaching of audiovisual translation.
