The Power of Words: Language, Responsibility, and Sustainability in Education

On September 23 and 24, 2025, the Department of English and American Studies is organizing training sessions that are part of the CLADES (Critical Language Awareness, Democratic Engagement and Sustainability) project.

As part of the CLADES project, (Link redirects to an external website) a series of training sessions in English entitled The Power of Words: Language, Responsibility, and Sustainability in Education will take place at our faculty.

Workshop trainers include:

  • Prof. Dr. Arran Stibbe (University of Gloucestershire, UK) on econarrative and ethical leadership
  • Dr. Erika Darics, Dr. Joanna Chojnicka, and Roel van Veen (University of Groningen, NL) on the power of language in stories, textbooks, and teacher-student interaction
  • Prof. Dr. Chloe Lybaert, Prof. Dr. Sarah Van Hoof, Prof. Dr. Bernard De Clerck, Prof. Dr. Sofie Decock, and Hanne Verhaegen (University of Ghent, BE) on language and accentism in education; and gender-inclusive language

The training is intended for all who want to better understand critical awareness of language and its transformative potential in education and society.
