Rules of the Admission Procedure at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University for the academic year 2024/2025

Rules of the admission procedure for bachelor's studies at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University for the academic year 2024/2025

The Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava (hereinafter referred to as "FiF UK" or "the Faculty"), after approval by the Academic Senate of FiF UK, establishes the following rules of the admission procedure for bachelor studies at the Faculty in the academic year 2024/2025, in accordance with Article 35(2) of the Internal Regulation of FiF UK No. 4/2023, approved by the Academic Senate of FiF UK and the Academic Senate of Comenius University in Bratislava—the Statute of FiF UK.

Art. 1
Introductory provisions

(1) These Rules of the Admission Procedure for the First Degree of Undergraduate Studies (Bachelor's Degree) at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University determine:1
a) the deadline for submitting an application for studies at the Faculty,
b) other conditions of admission to studies, the deadline and the method of verifying their fulfilment,
c) the form and framework content of the entrance examination and the method of evaluating its results.
(2) The number of applicants for the study programmes to be opened shall be determined in advance and published on the basis of the passing of the admission examination.2
(3) The  Dean of the Faculty has the right not to open a study programme for which fewer than three persons have applied.

Art. 2
Application for studies

(1) A person applying for studies shall submit an application form in the prescribed application format for study programmes to be opened at the Faculty of Arts of the Comenius University in the academic year 2024/2025.
(2) The application for studies shall be submitted electronically via the e-application portal of Comenius University in Bratislava (hereinafter referred to as "CU").
(3) The deadline for submission of the application form is 29 February 2024. The deadline for payment of the admission fee is 4 March 2024.
(4) A person applying for studies may apply for two study programmes. He/she shall indicate them on one application form in the order in which he/she expresses his/her preference. The order of study programmes indicated on the application form shall be binding in the admission procedure.

Art. 3
Entrance examination

(1) Admission to open study programmes is conditional upon passing the entrance examination, which consists of the National Comparative Exam (hereinafter referred to as the NCE), provided by www.scio.cz, s.r.o., and the Specific Prerequisites Examination (hereinafter referred to as the SPE) for selected study programmes. This is without prejudice to the provision in paragraph 5.
(2) The NCE consists of:
(a) for most programmes of study, a test of General Academic Prerequisites (hereinafter referred to as "GAP"),
(b) for some programmes of study, the GAP test and a test in English, German or Spanish, respectively, while for programmes of study with two language tests, the GAP test is not required,
(c) for the programme of study in Central European Studies, an English language test.
Information on the required examinations for each study programme is given in Annex 1.
(3) For the study programme History of Art, the study programme Marketing Communication and the study programme Journalism, in addition to the NCE, the SPE is required and is implemented by the Faculty. The focus of the SPE is to identify talent for the study of the aforementioned programmes of study.
(4) Persons applying for the selected study programmes who have successfully passed the secondary school subject Olympiads and other relevant competitions will be admitted without the need to undertake the NCE or part of the NCE, according to the table in Annex 2. They will be awarded 100 points for the waived test.
(5) If more persons do not apply for the opening study programme than the number of persons admitted to the study programme, the  Dean of the Faculty has the right to waive the admission examinations and to admit all the persons applied for without an admission examination.
(6) For the purposes of the admissions process, the Faculty shall accept NCE test results taken between December 2021 and March 2024 (inclusive). The best test result obtained shall be counted.3
(7) The SPE for programmes of study referred to in paragraph (3) shall be held in April 2024. A person applying to study shall take the SPE on the ordinary date set by the Faculty. Failure to attend the SST shall not entitle the student to a refund of the admissions fee. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the  Dean of the Faculty has the right to decide to interrupt the SPE or to change its date.
(8) A person who applies for two study programmes shall take the entrance examination for both study programmes. The GAP taken shall be valid for both programmes of study, if prescribed.
(9) The result of the NCE tests shall be given in the form of a percentile. For the purpose of scoring the entrance examination, the percentile is converted into points, where one point corresponds to one percentile. The maximum number of points for a single NCE test is 100. If an applicant takes two NCE tests, they shall be weighted equally and the maximum score shall be 200. The maximum score for the SPE is 100.
(10) The maximum total number of points obtained is 100 or 200, depending on the structure of the entrance examination. The final ranking of persons applying for the study programme shall be determined by the total number of points obtained.
(11) The results of the NCE tests shall be submitted to the Faculty exclusively by the company to which the contract for the implementation of the NCE is awarded. The person applying for studies does not hand over his/her results to the Faculty, but gives his/her consent to hand them over to the company to which the contract for the implementation of the NCE is awarded.
(12) Equivalent to the Slovak version of the GAP test ("VŠP"), the result of the Czech version of the GAP test ("OSP") or the English version of the GAP test, taken in the period from December 2021 to March 2024 (inclusive), shall also be recognised.
(13) Persons applying for studies with specific needs shall, upon their written request, be allowed to take the entrance examination in a special way, taking into account their specific needs as stated in their application or when applying for the NCE.

Art. 4
Admission to study

(1) A person applying for studies shall be admitted to no more than one study programme according to the order of the result of the admission examination, respecting the preference of the study programme given by its order on the application form.
(2) The  Dean of the Faculty has the right to decide on the admission of additional persons applying for studies in the order of the results of the admission examination for individual study programmes, up to a maximum of the number increasing the planned number of admitted persons by the number of persons not enrolled from the admitted applicants in the previous academic year, or in the last year in which the given study programme was opened. In the case of study programmes for which a smaller number of persons applied in the previous academic year or in the last year in which the study programme was opened than the planned number of admitted persons, the  Dean of the Faculty has the right to decide on the admission of additional persons in the order of the results of the admission procedure for individual study programmes, up to a maximum of the difference between the planned number of admitted persons and the number of admitted persons who enrolled in the given study programme.
(3) The  Dean of the Faculty at a meeting of the  Dean's admissions committee decides on the admission of persons who have shown the highest level of ability in the admission procedure to study in the chosen study programme only according to the resulting order of the admission examinations.

Art. 5
Review of the decision on the outcome of the admission procedure

(1) A person applying for admission may apply for a review of the decision on the outcome of the admission procedure. The application shall be submitted to the  Dean within eight days of the date of receipt of the decision.
(2) The  Dean shall grant the application only if he/she finds that the decision was issued in violation of the Higher Education Act, an internal regulation of the Comenius University, an internal regulation of the Faculty of Arts of the Comenius University or these Admission Procedure Rules.

Art. 6
