About the Faculty

Faculty of Arts is one of the thirteen faculties of the Comenius University in Bratislava. Comenius University is the biggest and oldest public university in the Slovak Republic. It is recognized as one of the most important teaching and research institutions in Slovakia. Comenius University has been founded in 1919 and Faculty of Arts is one of the original three founding faculties, besides the faculties of medicine and law.

Faculty of Arts offers degrees (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.) in a wide range of disciplines in the field of social sciences and humanities. Currently there are more than 3,000 students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts who pursue their studies in more than seventy different study programs. The academic staff of the Faculty of Arts consists of more than 250 professors, associate professors and lecturers.  Faculty of Arts has introduced a three-tier degree structure based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). In recent years Faculty of Arts has consistently attracted the largest number of study applicants among similar faculties in Slovakia, thus allowing it to remain highly selective when admitting students.

Our faculty places a great deal of emphasis on international cooperation with foreign universities both with regard to education and research. Since 1965 the Faculty of Arts has hosted the annual summer school of Slovak language and culture Studia Academica Slovaca that teaches foreigners Slovak language and introduces them to Slovak culture and history. Our departments accept foreign students within the Erasmus+ program and other mobility schemes. Many departments offer courses taught in English and other foreign languages. Currently we offer one B.A. program – namely the Central European Studies – which is completely taught in English. The teaching staff has participated in a number of international research projects and we strive to strengthen the international scientific cooperation also through such European research framework programmes as Horizon 2020.

It is my sincere hope that you will find relevant information on our website and our faculty will become a good partner either for scientific cooperation in the field of humanities and social sciences or a fitting place to pursue your studies.
