Teaching

Department of Archaeology of Faculty of Arts at Comenius University in Bratislava provides a professional education and practice for students in the field of archeology. The academic staff is specialized in a broad range of subjects such as Prehistory, Middle Ages, Modern Age, experimental and theoretical archaeology, applied modern computer methods as well as in the use of natural sciences in archaeology. The education is focused on understanding the material and spiritual culture in all historical periods and is complemented by a mandatory field practice and all that goes with it.

In addition to the internal academic staff, the education is supported by external partners from several Slovak and foreign professional institutions. Students can also choose from the subjects at other departments of the Faculty of Arts or on the other faculties of the University. In the context of mandatory and optional subjects they are gaining knowledge also from so called battlefield archaeology as well as the field of natural sciences and other disciplines, for instance geophysics, archaeobotany, archaeozoology, anthropology, history, ethnology, auxiliary sciences in history, history of art, comparative religious studies etc.
