1. | The cultural heritage of Slovaks in Bulgaria in the years 1884-1949 from the point of view of their religious life | Slovaks came to Bulgaria mainly in the so-called second emigration wave on the basis of the 1880 law on the settlement of sparsely populated areas of Bulgaria. Despite being one of the least numerous enclaves in the "Lower Land", they became a viable community. Confessionally, these were mainly evangelical groups of settlers. The aim of the dissertation will be, in the first part, to create a synthesis of knowledge about the settlement of Bulgarian areas by Slovak settlers, the causes and consequences of this process; in the second part of the dissertation, the aim will be to map the religious life of the studied communities since the establishment of evangelical church congregations and to describe their spiritual and cultural provision, with an emphasis on the ordinary and lay ministers who worked in the enclave. The villages of Gorna Mitropolija, Mrtvica (later Podem), Brasljanica and Vojvodovo should be of particular interest. |
2. | Analysis and Edition of Chosen Mediaeval Sources Concerning the History of Slovakia | Selected larger medieval source or a group of sources (e.g. charters on a selected topic, region, period; diplomatic books; codicological manuscripts or their fragments) should be analyzed from a classical diplomatic (or codicological) point of view (analysis of formal and content pages) and edited. Successful dissertation can become the next volume of the long-term publishing project of the Department of Archival Studies and Museology Documenta Posoniensia. |
3. | The Czech and Slovak Historiography from the point of view of Czech-Slovak Commission of Historians (1994 – 2024) ** | The Czech-Slovak Commission of Historians was established in 1994 as a result of dissolution of the common state. Since then, it has published 25 volumes of the Czech-Slovak Historical Yearbook and organized 59 meetings connected with scientific conferences, seminars and public discussions, had effect on both historiographies, supported the cooperation of historians of both countries and initiated their research in many ways. 4. | How to understand the topic of the Principality of Nitra: The current state of the issue and perspective possibilities of interpretation ** | The topic of the Principality of Nitra has been alive in Slovak historiography since the last third of the 19th century. The interpretation of this historical issue in this period has undergone many significant changes, which can be summarised on a scale ranging from overestimation to underestimation. It also regularly receives some attention in neighbouring Czech, Hungarian, German and Polish historiographies. The aim of this dissertation is to summarize the current themes and tendencies in the research of this issue. To outline further potential possibilities of its research and to apply them. |
5. | Historiographical works of Ján Hučko (1929 – 2001) ** | The rich historiographical publishing activities of Ján Hučko (1929 – 2001), as well as his pedagogical activities has not been systematically processed so far. A comprehensive analysis of Hučko's work is needed on the basis of all texts – both scientific and popular (historiography and historicism). It is also necessary to analyze his person in the scheme: society – historian – work and to apply the methods and approaches of modern historiographical research.
